Play Gym Happy Letters.
What do you think of your
Bottlebrush Parrot Play Gym.
More important than what you
think however, is what does your parrot think. Do you notice a
difference in your parrot's behavior? Is he happier?
Scream less? Want to tell other people what you think.
This is the page for you. Send me an E-mail and I will post it
on this page. Share your experiences and opinions with
other people.
For those of you who have read
through my site, you will see that I am a believer that if your parrot
LOVES his Play Gym, and is perfectly comfortable there, they will stay
there. Many
of you have purchased other Play Gyms and your parrot WOULDN'T stay on
them. Don't give up. My Bottlebrush Parrot Play Gyms are
so natural, the design is so comfortable that YOUR PARROT WILL HAPPILY
STAY THERE EVEN IF YOUR NOT HOME. In March, I adopted Rio, my
Severe Macaw. He was NOT play gym trained but now spends ALL HIS
DAYS ON HIS DELUXE PLAY GYM, EVEN WHEN I'M GONE FOR THE DAY.
Many of my customers below also have discovered that their parrots
will happily spend their days on their play gyms because it's natural
and what birds want to do. Being caged is what's unnatural.
The
stand is pretty FREAKING amazing!!
Beautiful
and my birdie LOVES it. Thanks for your hard work on this and
packaging. It was a breeze to put together.
Take
care!! Will send pics soon

Hi Wayne,
Oh my goodness, I got the Jumbo playgym today and I just love it!!!
My birds haven't really had a chance to play on it cause it was
almost their bedtime when I got it assembled, but I personally love
it, and I'm certain they will as well. I've looked for a
really long time for something that looks nice in my living room
that my cockatoos cannot climb off of. I cannot tell you
how many gyms I've bought, only to sell them a month or so
later on Ebay. That's the honest truth. I purchased
the largest Advanced Avian Designs gym, the largest double Manzanita
gym, a really ugly metal gym, but non look as nice as this one, nor
were they this quality.
Time for a movie, but thank you very much! My birds are
going to have a fun day tomorrow for sure :-)

Hi,
Wayne,
I
just placed an order for a medium hanging gym for our
Cape
parrot (Bridget) and Green Cheek Conure (Leopold).
You
built an awesome two-bird standing playgym for us last fall, and
both birds love it, but they just don’t get along well enough to
be on it at the same time—either that or they’re greedy and
don’t want to share it!
Anyway,
I wanted to let you know how happy we are to be joining the ranks of
your returning customers. I can’t wait to see what happens when
the birds have to choose between two
gyms!
Best
regards,
Lilith

Hi Wayne,
Our Play Gym arrived today and it is FANTASTIC!!
Your packing job was great - FedEx delivered it and none of the
parts were broken or dented. It was easy to assemble, the workmanship
is superb, and our cockatoo went right for the bottlebrush - truly
amazing stuff!
Just wanted to let you know that it arrived safely, and we'll soon
be ordering a hanging one to match!
Thanks again,
-Carin N
Hi Wayne--
The parrot gym arrived around 9 pm by FedEx on Tuesday night. I
assembled it yesterday morning, loaded it with toys, and put the birds
on. It is so wonderful and I am thrilled with it! It is in
our living room in front of the bay window, and blends into our
"tropical" look furnishings really well. It's a classy
piece of furniture.
Cor and Cayenne and still adjusting to it--I give them a couple of
hours on it in the morning and at night--but they are exploring and
chewing and it's great to see them have the freedom to be out and NOT
be climbing all over ME! Thank you so much for putting the
branch on that has the big knot of wood---being a conure, that is
Cayenne's favorite place. Our camera just died and I am getting
a new one on Monday, so after that, I will send you some photos of the
two birds on the gym.
Now to my next question---I would like to order some bottlebrush wood
perches for our three cages: conure, Caique, and lovebird. What
sizes do you have available and how do I go about it?
Is it also possible to order chunks of bottlebrush to hang in their
cages for chewing purposes? I'd like to string some pieces on
strips of leather.
Please let me know, and thanks again for the fantastic job on the
playgym. It's a piece of art and I am so happy with it!
Sincerely,
Linda P
Hi
Wayne:
We got the playstand and Mobley, our parrot, LOVES it. I was prepared
for it to take a couple days for him to warm up to it but I placed a
couple of treats on there and he hopped right on never looked back. He
loves that spinny thing you put on it.
I attached a small picture of him on his playstand.
Anyway, thanks very much!

Hi
I just had to write to you about the new hanging gym we received
from you, yesterday! All I can say, is:
Awesome - I LOVE it!!!!! (So does McCoy - now that he is getting
used to it... LOL!) I have attached a pic of him on it - we call it
his new "tree" - hehe...
My son Jay loves animals - he has a snapping turtle, and three
sugar gliders; his 9-year-old daughter, Lexxus, has a guinea pig, and
his 5-year-old son, Jayce, has 3 degu's.... all are cool, but McCoy
has stolen the hearts of us all! And you have made it so much easier,
to give him what he needs and deserves... a life!
I know I spoil him a bit - but I have waited so many years to get
him - and I am just so glad to have found you and your bottlebrush
stuff right away! I will never buy anything else for him - except for
a few cheap toys, for him to destroy - lol! He likes to do that
sometimes, and THAT is the only thing he can't do with your stuff :)
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!
~ Trish
PS: Thanks :)
Hi Wayne,
The hanging gyms arrived, and I just had to drop you a note.
First, your website pictures don't do them justice.
They're just beautiful, Wayne.
Second, they're extremely well made. From the branch positions, to
how easy they are to use, it's clear that a lot of careful thought
(for the bird, as well as the owner!) went into the construction.
Third, and most importantly, Sweetie, our African Grey, wont
leave it! We've always had a problem with her getting down off her
cage and/or perch and wandering around, but not anymore. She
seems perfectly content to hang out on the gym. Our two other
Greys are still getting warmed up to them (typical) but do prefer the
bottlebrush perches above all other perches.
Last, I feel that the products I've purchased from you were
simply the best investment I've made in my little flocks well being.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kathy Taylor

Hello
Wayne,
I have
been anxiously awaiting the arrival of your play gym and it arrived
yesterday! As I pulled in the driveway after work, I saw the
box and practically salivated. I felt like a kid at Christmas,
tearing open the box and looking at everything inside. It was
very easy to put together and I had it up in no time. Looks
great as well. I brought my Eclectus over to it and he leaned
towards it, fluttering his wings so I let him step on the perch.
He sat there for about a half hour just looking at everything but
was soon giving it a thorough once over. He is normally quiet
and reserved but made alot of soft noises and even began to vocalize
a bit. He normally does not talk while I'm in the room but
couldn't seem to restrain himself. After seeing that he was
doing ok, I continued with my evening routine, cooking dinner, etc.
At the end of the evening, I put him back in his cage to sleep but
was sad to have to remove him from the play gym. I look
forward to the day when he can spend all of his time there.
You may
remember that I originally contacted you about my female Umbrella
Cockatoo, who was screaming. By the time I spoke to you, the
relationship was doomed. She had been unhappy and stressed for
over a year and the screaming had escalated to the point that I was
experiencing stress/anxiety related health issues. I did
decide to find her another home and had great success with the
placement. There is a parrot store here in Rockford that is
owned by a local couple and I asked them if they would help me find
her a better home and they suggested another couple that are friends
of theirs. The new family has 6 other birds and a dog as well.
She has been in her new home now for a little over a week and is
settling in well. She still won't let them pick her up but has
made fast friends with their dog. She had previously bonded
with one of my dogs and was very unhappy that she could no longer
see the dog (the dog is old and can't get around much anymore).
This was one reason the screaming had escalated in recent months.
I can't tell you the difference in my own health. Thank you
for sharing your story about the Myna bird. I would have never thought
that the bird's sounds could have such a negative effect on my
health. I miss her very much but feel that she is in a better
place. The couple are retired and spend quality time with
their birds. They have been gracious about sharing information
about how the bird is settling in and have told me that I can visit
any time. I think I should wait until she has formed some
bonds with them before I do that though. I can't wait to share
with them your products and web site. When I delivered the
bird to them, I saw that they had many play stands but they are the
white plastic type and I know their birds would benefit from your
play gyms. I'll pass on the information. Thank you so
much for everything! I look forward to a long relationship
with you and your products.

Hi, Wayne. I thought you'd like to see a picture of my two
cockatiels happily ensconced in their new "playstation."
Thanks again!

hi, received the hanging playgym and set it up. my 5 month old CAG
took to it like a duck to water. he really likes it. this is a great
product exhibiting innovative thinking. plus, for a new parrot owner i
found your website to be highly informative and a breath of fresh air.
keep up the good work and thanks. frank
I love both gyms. You do beautiful work. It is certainly worth
every penny. Thanks so much!

Hi Wayne,
Last week, I received the shipment of the perches and toys
that I had ordered. Prior to ordering, I had read your site many
times. It took me a while to order as I had my doubts if my
Greenwing Macaw would even give these toys or perches a try.
He is a rehome, 15 years old. His pictures say he's a Greenwing,
but I am positive he's all chicken! I have repeatedly tried
to put all kinds of toys and perches in his cage, with the same
outcome everytime. He will refuse to go back in his cage until the
offensive item is removed. If it's a new perch, he will avoid it
at every turn. He will not play or chew on any wood toy or perch
that I have given him.
When my order arrived I put the new perches up and a few of the
toys in his cage. I sat down to await the protest march to begin.
To my surprise and disbelief he jumped up on the perch and made
himself quite comfy! OK, I thought, what's this all about, who are
you and what did you do with my bird!!! As the days went by he
proceeded to chew on the toys, wipe his beak up and down the
perches and start chewing them. To say I am amazed, would be an
understatement!
I plan to order the branch replacement soon, so we can build him a
nice play gym. Thank you so much! If my bird is happy, I'm happy!
Best Regards,
Karen
Hi again,
Of course you can use the pics. I'm just so pleased. She
has been on the gym for the last five hour except for a few minutes
here and there when we took her off. She is perfectly happy
just staying there. I'm just so tickled. I can't wait
for the other flex toy to come so she will have 2 different loops to
be standing and gnawing on. Could you please drop me an email
when you send the toy out. At this point, I have lost all
faith in UPS doing what it is supposed to do. I swear if my
son, Keith, wasn't dogging them about the gym, we still wouldn't
have it. I really wish I had known about your bottlebrush when
I first got her. A big cage, like we have, would never have
entered my house.
Thanks again,
Hello Wayne,
Sandy here. Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know you
are great!! You are the man.
I came home at 3:30 and we finished putting the gym together.
Put FreddieBird on it and the bird went nuts.
She has found out that the best lookout is on the very top of the
flex toy. She hasn't stepped down onto the tray yet.
She hangs upside down and looks at it but I think that she is
thinking it's water. After the first few nibbles of the wood
the story was over.
We have taken her off a couple of times but she makes it very
clear...she would prefer the gym. I can't believe that she is
sitting
under the flex toy as I write this and sleeping. Whenever I'm
on the computer, she makes it her mission to be here too.
ALWAYS!!
Not today though....she's preening, she's playing, she's chewing and
she's sleeping on the gym. I'm am so amazed.
She has become so preoccupied with the gym that we have become
useless as her main entertainment.
Everything is just like you said. This may be only day one but
I'm looking forward to the very real possibility of having a
cagefree bird. I will keep you updated. I have also
attached some pic's of FreddieBird on her new gym.
Thank you so very much,
Wayne!!!
Your box arrived and I'm sooooooooo pleased!! Bless your heart!
You even sent some AWESOME branches with KNOTS on
them!! (And some individual chunks with knots, too!) Both my little
bird, Blueberry Pi,
and I really appreciate it!!! :-)
I've got to secure a sturdy enough hook in the ceiling to hang the
gym. But I've got to tell you how much Blue LOVES your Medium
Regular Gym (in the Burl). He's finding new ways to play every day
(as he get bolder and more adventurous! He's not quite 4 months old
yet.)
Oh, and I put your Spinner-Toy in his big cage. He's going-to-town
on that! The Spinner on the gym is one of his very favorite
playthings. You certainly know what parrots love!!!
Once AGAIN I thank you! And I hope you-all weathered Hurricane Rita
even better than Katrina! Take care, Wayne. I'll be ordering from
you again. Meanwhile, here are some photos of Blue enjoying your
Play Gym! :-)
Thank you!!!
~ Kathy
Hey Wayne,
I purchased a play gym from you a few months back (we have a
Quaker Parrot). Just thought I'd send you some pictures as
Bongo really loves it!
I took your advice with training him to be on the playgym during
the day and in the cage at night (we had the summer to make
sure he was staying on the playgym) and things are working out
wonderfully. There are a few times when we've come home and
he's in the kitchen on top of his cage but that's usually because
we're running late (and he doesn't hesitate to tell us too!!
:)
I also "introduced" my Mastiff like you said and
again...all is well... In fact Bongo bit Bruno on the nose when he
had had enough sniffing....
So...thanks for all the great tips and mostly thanks for such a
great playgym....he loves it!!!

Hi
Wayne!
The

what Uma would do without you. :)

Hi,
Every day I want to email you to say thank you for filling my
recent order.
It was so long by the time customs ended up delaying the shipment
and I keep forgetting to email.
The birds so much enjoy their new perches and I appreciate you for
making their lives better.
They are at www.parrots.ca
and really love your wood.
You've given them a great outside perch, inside perch and a spare
for refill!
Thanks again.

I Wayne, my african timneh Coco finally likes his gym.. you
were right!!, all he needed was some time and it took him almost a
month and now he really loves it.
Thanks so much for your advices.

Hi Wayne,
I just wanted to let you know that our gym arrived on Tues. It
was very easy to put together. When I put Baby, our Jenday
Conure, on it she fluttered down to the floor twice but I put her
back on each time and she has not fluttered down since. She
seems so much happier than sitting on top of her cage. Now in
the morning when I take out of her cage it is like she knows where
she is going and she does not try to bite like she used to.
She also likes to cuddle with me more than she used to. She is
much happier. Thank you very much for making these wonderful
gyms, they are great. I am sending a pic of baby on her gym.
Thank you again

Hi Wayne - Once again, we are delighted with our new play gym - this
in number 3!!!!! My Macaws are having a great time on the Jumbo
model with plenty of room to roam and have fun together. No other
parrot play gyms come close in comparison. I have enclosed some
photos of Daisy and Banjo enjoying their new gym. Thanks a million -

Good Morning,
The hanging gym arrived this morning. It is fabulous. Way
more substantial than I expected. The hanger is really impressive. I
can't wait to get it home for the fid to try out. Have you heard
from other people that have purchased the hanging gyms ,as to
whether their birds were terrified at first? PeeWee is a young bird
and seems to accept new things pretty readily, like toys and such.
They usually only scare him at first. Any suggestions on how to
introduce this gym? Thanks again for this wonderful product, I
plan on replacing the perches in PW's cage with your perches in the
near future, so you have a customer for life. Tara Gish
Hi Wayne,
I loved reading everything you had to say, and wanted to thank you for
being so devoted and caring, above and beyond just selling your gyms.
I have already passed along your site address to other parrot owners.
I am happy to let you know that my young Senegal parrot, Kiwi, lives
pretty much outside his cage. I am a work-at home artist, and he is
out all day long, until we snuggle him to sleep under the covers then
put him to bed at night in his cage. He wakes me up every morning and
I come get him and begin the day by feeding his fresh veg and fruits
etc and we hang out while he eats and I make my latte!
Then, he is either on my shoulder, or nearby.
This brings me to my request, in getting help with making a place for
him that he will love as well as hanging out around/near me. I have
just moved to a spacious new apartment, and have been looking for a
solution to keep him better occupied while I work in my studio, which
is a room he is not allowed to go in due to any paint
/pigment/fumes/gold leaf etc ,etc that he may get into. I think he
really might love one of your tabletop or hanging gyms. Im not
sure what size he needs, but I know I would like a base that is about
20. He is not shy about hopping/fluttering down and walking to
wherever he can find me. I have discouraged him from being on the
floor, but he seems to disregard danger when he wants something (he is
a Senegal , after all). He has even opened his cage door and waddled
all the way to my bedroom door peeping.
This was his old window where he spent a lot of hours during the
day...the only way down was over the sink...he didnt jump very
often, but he did do it when ever he felt like it, or when the
lawn-mower monster was outside. You can see the hanging bird bath that
I want to replace with something safer. I made the hanging triangle
from 3 ladders put together with plastic tubing at the ends. This was
so simple to do...and he loved it...I want to share this trick with
everyone!
He also loves his fresh wheat grass to roll around in. Ok, this is
where it all started...with one ladder.
He has a thing for small plastic dinosaurs
So, what I need is a playplace that will interest him enough to keep
him occupied long enough to let me get some work done at home in my
studio. My favorites that I saw on your site were the tall small play
with red burl, only I dont want the floor model. I am not sure
if a hanger would be better for him, or a table stand. I am leaning
towards table, so I can move it easily. What would you recommend for
an upside-down hamcake? I hand-raised him from a baby, and being loose
all day is all he has known, unless I am away. He is happy and
healthy, and already spoiled (in a good way). I cant
understand why anyone wouldnt want the pleasure of their birds
company outside the cage as much as possible. Ki is sweet and gentle,
and he even comes when I call him!
Thanks again for your fantastic site!
P.S. I am on a budget being a working artist, so I guess I
cant spend more than a couple hundred on this unless you want
some artwork!!
Thank you!
Cecilia
Wayne, I can't begin to express how impressed, elated, thrilled my
hubby, Jeff and I were to unpack and setup the most wonderful artwork,
new world experience for Ellie, and gorgeous piece of furniture that
you've created. This is just so much more spectacular in person.
I'm so glad we went with this model 2, large, even if it is just
for my little tag grey; she is beyond herself with joy over this.
There was no need to introduce it to her; she practically jumped off
my hand to get to the wood. It's been about an hour, and now she's
perched herself on a cup and is pulling on the rope. She's also been
trying to make the bell make sounds, but she just can't seem to do it
quite hard enough, so I've been helping her. Oh, by the way, 3 poops
and they've all made the table!!!!
I just want to thank you, Wayne, for making me take a second look
at a product no one should be without if they own a parrot. It is just
beyond any expectation I might have had. I congratulate you for your
caring nature towards this most beautiful creature. Keep up the work,
and anyone reading this, I will tell you don't try to cut corners like
I tried in the beginning, sacrifice and go into debt if you have to,
you will not be sorry.
Can't say enough about the quality and workmanship!
With kind regards, peggym
Wayne
Hi Wayne,
Sorry it took me so long to email you. I got busy with work.....the
cable internet was broken....blah...blah blah.... Anyway, we got the
playgym right on time and safe and sound.
It is BEAUTIFUL and the perfect size and shape for Frankie, our
Quaker! I'm glad we decided on the medium size instead of the small.
The craftsmanship was excellent, as you promised, and it was easy to
assemble.
Frankie didn't really have any trouble getting used to it. He
hopped right on and climbed to the top, where he found his current
favorite perch (the little branch that forms a V off the top perch.)
Unfortunately, this is the only branch that allows him to poop on the
other branches. Oh well!
It's taken him a while to figure out that he can chew on the wood.
I'd been breaking off little pieces for him and demonstrating chewing
with my own
"beak". I wasn't getting an immediate response, but he
was watching me
carefully. In the last few days, I have caught him taking little
tastes when he thinks no one is looking. Just a few minutes ago, I
heard a noise that didn't sound like eating and turned to find him
nibbling on the spinner toy.
I'm very excited! He is exploring and playing on his new gym more
and more everyday. I am very happy with the play gym and I'd like to
think Frankie is, too!
Thanks for all your hard work!
Amber
Wayne,
Many thanks! The gym is wonderful. We got it this
morning and immediately assembled it. We put Zeke's favorite
toys on it as well as some enticing new ones. Zeke has been on the
gym all day playing happily, and he just loves gnawing on the
bottlebrush. The gym was an instant hit, he practically jumped
off of my hand to get on it. It is so nice to see him so active and
happy. He is now nothing like the scared, skinny, quiet rescue
bird I brought home four months ago.
Thanks again Wayne!
Buffy
The two boxes arrived late yesterday. Although I did follow your
directions about introducing Joey gradually, she immediately took to
the gyms and wondered what all the fuss was about. She began to gnaw
on the bottlebrush right away. Jack and I put together the gyms and
strung up her toys. The green one is in the office and Joey is happily
climbing on top of the umbrella toy as I type. The chestnut one is in
the living room and will be rolled back and forth to the kitchen.
Joey's night roost box is tucked in a cozy niche in the utility
room.
So, do you want an extra Avian Adventure playtop cage? Now
obsolete!
Next we'll work on the "Stay There" and "Come
Here" commands. We look forward to Joey having two special
"trees" in our house and being a much less demanding member
of the family. I'll keep you posted!
The gyms are beautifully made, wonderfully portioned and reasonably
priced. They take up much less space than the cage and Java Tree stand
that I had bought. I just wish I had found you at the beginning of our
relationship with Joey!!
Thanks again for all of your help and advice and for the wonderful
products.
Marcy, Jack and Joey
Hi Wayne!
I emailed you last night regarding my cats possibly eating my new
bird. Thanks for the info on your website-sooo helpful! I've been
online now for about 2 hours reading everything on your site. I'm
planning on ordering a play gym from you just as soon as my credit
card clears in about 2 weeks. In the meantime, I have a few questions
if you don't mind. First, here's Julian's story:
My daughter called me one morning recently and in her cute, 10-yr
old voice, said, "Mom? Do you want another pet?" Oh, boy, I
thought, what does she have in mind? It seems she had been visiting
our local pet store (she does that alot!) and had fallen in love with
this cute little bird. At first I said I didn't think I was up for
having a parrot, what alot of work! I needed some time to think about
it. She lured me into the pet store this past weekend and I met
Julian. I was smitten! He is the most beautiful aqua color, with some
grey accents and a gorgeous red beak. He looks just like the water in
the Bahamas. Of course looks aren't enough. He was quietly sitting on
the pet shop owner's shoulder as she went about her business. He would
climb onto anyone's finger and go up our arms to our shoulders. He
gently used his beak to hang onto a finger, then step up. Needless to
say, we brought him home, along with a $300.00 cage! Of course I had
to get a couple of books as I have never had a parrot, and the first
thing I did was to teach him to step up without using his beak. Wish I
had found your website first! Now he will consistently step up without
using his beak. I am going to start playing beak with him today and
can hopefully learn to pick him up with it as you suggest. Next thing
I did was to take my two nice Emeril Teflon pans and trade them to my
ex-husband for a stainless steel one. I'm getting them back after
reading your info! I read about roost cages in a book and it suggested
I buy a small crate for him to sleep in. Did that yesterday but I had
no idea what to put in it! Got online, found your website and liked
your ideas much better. Now for my questions (finally!)
As I can't even order the playgym for a couple of weeks, what do I
do in the meantime regarding roosting at night?
How long will it take once I place the order, to get the playgym?
(the page wouldn't open on your site)
I can't find any info anywhere on when to get his wings clipped
(he's 5 months old) He flies down to the floor sometimes but lets me
pick him up every time (I say "c'mere" and up he comes on my
finger)
What size should I consider, small or medium? I don't have a set
work schedule...sometimes I'm gone all day, sometimes only for a few
hours.
Here's the thing. This little guy is sweet and smart and easy
"right now". I'd love to raise him to be a happy, healthy
bird and I'll do whatever I can to prevent all of the problems I've
been reading about to develop in the first place. I just don't want to
make a lot of mistakes I'll have to undo later. Any advice would be
appreciated! Can't wait till I can place my order in a couple of
weeks!! I'll look forward to hearing from you if you have the time.
Sincerely,
Rebecca
Hi Wayne,
Found the digital camera and took a couple of quick pics of Mango
on his new playgym for you. Mango really seems to enjoy spending time
on his new gym, and this allows him to be around us in the same room
more than he used to be also.
The one picture is Mango chewing on the spinner toy which he found
just before I took the picture (up to this point he had mainly been
just chewing on various parts of the top perch, and the perch toy.
As I type this, he's preening and cooing contentedly, so I think
you've got another happy feathered customer :-)
If you'd like, I'll give you another update in a week or so after
he's had more time on the gym.
Hi Wayne,
I just wanted to let you know that I received my playgym a few days
ago and it looks wonderful. It was pretty easy to assemble
too!
My half-moon conure Candy has been on it for for several hours
a day since I assembled it.
She has never jumped down from it but, being a very timid bird, hasn't
done much to embrace it either. Other than the food bowl
she stays on one branch for now and has not attempted to move
around. Hopefully her curiosity will eventually get the better
of her and she will "sink her beak" into the bottlebrush
soon!
I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful workmanship. I
have faith that Candy will grow to love her playgym!
Regards,
Dawn Kornfeld
Wayne... I picked up the play gym last night and and did
exactly what you said in your website. I took the top, put it
on the floor and sat with Dino so he wouldn't be frightened.
For an African Gray, he took to it quickly!! Wasn't
frightened, stepped right on it. He really loves it and the
gym is beautiful, just like you said it would be!! He played
on it for about an hour and a half, never once wanting to get off of
it. He didn't even mind when I attached the toy! He is a
bit timid with playing and hasn't dug into the wood yet,
but he did give it a couple of "nibbles" and said
"Yummy". I am absolutely delighted and this was
definitely an answer to my prayers!! You are wonderful!!!
I will definitely keep you posted... whether you want me to or
not!
After speaking with you, I know this has been a tough year for you,
but, I also know that things will get better for someone as kind as
you seem to be. Take care and I wish you and your family well
and my best wishes for better things to come.
Take care,
Marilyn
Thanks Wayne, I cannot say enough about this play
stand. As a first time parrot owner I am thrilled with the
stand and so is my Eclectus, "Cowboy". I have done
as you have said and he is pretty well trained to the play stand.
At 3 mos he still hears the call of the wild and has to fly a bit in
the morning and evening but other than that he is on his play stand.
thanks again,
ann biundo
Dear Wayne,
I meant to write earlier and kept
forgetting. THANK YOU sooooo much for that wonderful box of branches
and the special hook-shaped toy with all the chewy fun pieces. It
came on Christmas Eve, so Wing had his own present(s) when we all
unwrapped in the the morning. It was so much more than I expected.
It was / is really a wonderful business you do, and I so appreciate
it!
My best to you,
Soaring from Big Sur
Hi Wayne,
Zorro, my Nanday Conure, is using his play gym and liking it.
Besides playing with the toys I added he is also starting to
"eat" the branches. That spinning wheel chew toy is his
favorite.
He used to stay in his cage until I got up in the morning, which is
around noon for me. Now I find him entertaining himself on his play
gym. His cage door is, and always was, open because I know he
sees his play gym as an extension of his safe area, his cage (he is
a rescued bird). He likes going between his cage and play gym at
will.
I built the play gym together and put it right next
to his cage because at this point he only feels safe in or on his
cage. I also had to remove the water and food cups (still afraid of
them) and add a dark brown screw-in perch to the outside of his
cage (he has those kind of perches inside the cage). Then I
used his favorite treat to train him first to sit on the brown perch
outside the cage, next to the gym, then to reach over the closest
play gym branch or touch the spinning chew toy. Eventually I
increased the distance he had to reach until he had to step up on a
play gym perch to get his treat. It took about a week to get him
comfortable enough to investigate on his own. Now if he wants me to
feed him a treat he pulls on one of his play gym toys or grabs the
spinning wheel.
If I could do it again, I would order a deluxe gym from you. I think
Zorro is happier and more relaxed. I also love the smell of that
wood. It smells so pleasant when I enter the house.
Thanks for a great product!!!
Regards,
Ingrid
Hi
Wayne,
I
got the Gym & Toys today. All came through UPS without a hitch.
Not always the case...
I
have to say WOW! The Gym is drop-dead gorgeous!! The pictures don't
do justice to your handy work. I only wish my little one was here to
enjoy it. But all good things come...
I'll
let you know how everything goes when my household does become
featheredJ
I
hope the Bottlebrush continues to flow from your fingers.
Blessings
to you and yours,

Hi Wayne, I was touring around ebay and looked
over at Nessie, my BFA (sanford and son attack with the huge knot of
BB), lol. Well she is sitting over there chewing away on one of the
perches with a knot and made me think of you. I just wanted to say
thank you again for all the wonderful stuff I bought from you for all
my birds. From the littlest lovebird and parrotlet to Nessie, my BFA
everyone of them knows the pleasure of perching on one of your perches
or on the playgym and the extra hunks they all love and the flex toys
that I have everywhere and they all enjoy them in different ways.
Nessie, who you heard me speak of the most, because she is such a
kidder, little clown and love of my life and is right here in my face
atm, she is soooooo picky that she will not step up on any stick,
unless its your bottle brush. She will look at it, sniff and taste,
and will turn her head and refuse to step up,till I find a BB stick,
then she hops right up. .... I really want to thank you!!!!
Hi Wayne! Kirby's playgym arrived today!
I was so excited! Kirby was excited to see what was in the box too!
We could hear the bell jingling when we moved it! (I also make
pretty much all of my birds' toys - so Kirby is used to boxes coming
in the mail and it being good, fun stuff for him!) I couldn't
wait to get it open. Once I did, I got everything unwrapped - and
then couldn't remember which end of the post went where! LOL SO I
had to run and get on the computer to look at the directions on
your site. I know you recommend putting it together slowly and
letting the bird get used to it piece by piece - but my Kirby very
rarely will miss the opportunity to check out something new!
I got it put
together - very quickly and easily once I read your directions! I
moved Kirby's toys off his old pvc gym and put them on the new gym -
just so there would be something familiar there to help entice him
if need be. I then moved the old gym out of the way and put
the new bottlebrush gym in it's place. Kirby was on top of his
cage observing. But about 30 seconds later - he was checking out the
overhead perch toy. Then he he slowly walked on the top branch just
lightly feeling everything with his beak and tongue.
I was moving his foot
toy bucket to the new gym so he came over, crawled on my shoulder
and watched while I put the finishing touches on ( putting food and
water in the bowls, etc.) When I was done I asked if he wanted to
step down and he got on the perch with the spinner. He eyed it a few
minutes then nibbled on it. Then he went to chewing on the branch
above him. He chewed for about 5 minutes, climbed up to the top to
get a drink of water and now is sitting there preening himself and
getting ready for a nap!
I can't
tell you how pleased I am with the gym. It is even more beautiful
than the pictures and what I had imagined. I'm so thrilled I was
able to purchase a gym from you. Kirby and I are both appreciative
of your craftmanship and your dedication. I will send you some
pictues soon!

Hi Wayne, I was just
looking over your web site and wanted to say, I got the gym about
two years ago when I first got my MeyersI really took to
heart your information about a parrot being locked in a cage all
day. I also have parakeets and a canary, but they are so
different, they seem perfectly happy in their (very nice, and
large!) cages. Parrots are different, though.
Anyway, just to let
you know, my parrot, Rachel, is outside all day long, even when I'm
at work. She has a wonderful area that includes her very large
cage, a counter immediately next to it (that your countertop deluxe
gym is on), and a window that overlooks the lake and trees and ducks
outside. She spends all day either on her gym, her cage, the
windowsill or another hanging gym I got for her. Hey, come to
think of it, she's got the Life of Reilly! But really, thanks
so much; I have seen another parrot in my apartment complex that is
locked inside a cage all day and it breaks my heart, that little
bird hardly moves all day. So I appreciate the wise words and
especially this great gym.
Best wishes!
Jane Rockley
I just wanted to say how nice it is to
see a site with advice gearded for the non "anal
retentive" person. I really enjoyed reading your thoughts
and suggestions. They are on a more normal and "get
real" plane.
We had the opportunity to get the
dreaded Mullucan cockatoo a couple of years ago. We had a sun
conure and was used to his little antics but never owned a big bird
before. With plenty of love to go around I was personally
worried after bringing the bird home by reading a couple of sites
that really chastized the owner if they didn't quit their job and
spend 24/7 with the bird. Oh, the warnings! He'll pull
his feathers out.....blah, blah, blah. Everytime Ziggy would
refluff himself we would fly to the cage for fear of his pulling
feathers out.
All the weird and crazy ideas about
care. Don't do this, don't do that. Never a positive
thing to say about this particular parrot and for shame on a human
for having one.
Lord have mercy. That silly bird
is the baby! He's the spoiled rotten little sweetheart that
gets more attention than anybody. Some may have parrots that
are troublesome but this one is the golden boy. After we
settled our nerotic watch on the bird and finally calmed down we
learned very quick that everything you say and more is true.
They do what you do and enjoy the things you enjoy.
Diet was another thing we were
absolutely hounded to death by on every other site we looked at.
Sure he gets his fruits and veggies but a good piece of pizza also
keeps him very happy. We fix a plate for him and he eats at
the table sometimes. Our vet says that Ziggy is the happiest
and healthiest parrot he's ever seen in his 20 years of work.
He was really shocked at how loving and caring and nonagressive he
was. His response was, "I can tell that bird worships the
ground you walk on. You have really spent a lot of time with
him and it shows by how much he loves you."
That made me feel really good.and
destressed. Then I was mad at the jerk who had that website.
Just to give you an idea, I just put him to bed right before I
started looking at your site and he started screaming. I
forgot to tell him I loved him before he went night, night.
If you are a loving person, your bird
will be also. We both work during the day and Ziggy is fine
with that. He's not depressed or underfed or ignored. He
goes and does everything with us and gets plenty of attention and
fresh air. He rides in the car and on the boat.
Instead of warning everybody that even
thinks about getting a parrot and telling them they will own you,
your website has led people to relax and enjoy the comfort and
companionship of your bird. They will converse with you and
play with you and love you to pieces. Sure they can be
destructive but that's all part of being a bird. You learn how
to control that. Ziggy is rarely on his cage unless he goes
there himself. He walks through the house talking to you and
following you while you do your cleaning or laundry. Sometimes
he wants to spend the day on your shoulder and just be with you.
He will cuddle with you watching TV. He will sing and dance
for you (His favorite song is "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" and he
knows the words to it!).
Parrots are a joy to have! They
will adapt to your lifestyle and just join right in.
I agree with the harness. Yes, we
bought one of those dumb things for fear of Ziggy flying off.
He ain't going anywhere. He is 100% devoted to me. He
runs around the yard and sits on my shoulder out in the yard.
He plays with the neighbors kids. He has a ball and has never
flown off; however, I do keep a show clip on him just in case.
Only once was he frightened by a loud noise and took off but not far
before realizing what he had done and then started screaming my name
and "come get me!" We were worried about him and the
boat. Shoot, he hollers, "WEEEEEEE" and flaps those
wings when we take off. The harness was bad and it iritated
him and he tried to chew it off.
Your Teflon story was hysterical.
Oh yes & air fresheners! Throw them away! They are
very hearty. His previous owner told us he got hold of a kids
toy and ate the batteries! They thought, "dead
bird." Nope. Yes, he has eaten bubble bath and a
few other things when we first got him. We weren't used to
each other yet and didn't have our ears tuned into the trademark,
"click, click, click" of those toenails on the hardwood
floor. You hear that and his little mischievious giggle you
better come-a runnin'. Now he is so in long with us that he
isn't that mischievious anymore. He wants to be with you and
if you try and leave without him to go shopping or whatever he will
baby talk, "I want to go with you."
We never had a problem with the weeing
of attention because he really did become a part of our lives after
that initial period of a couple of months where he was adjusting to
his new surroundings. I get up in the morning and unlock the
cage and he has to grouch for a few mintues and wake up. He
follows you into the bathroom and climbs up on the sink via the
handles on the drawers and sits there while you shower. If he
wants a shower he will tell you and he will join you in the shower
without a fuss. Then I take him and set him on the bed while I
dress and he just talks and bounces and carries on. From there
I simply put him on the floor. He entertains himself for
awhile in his cage or he'll come in the room you're in, "What'cha
doin?" He has his own special chair that he climbs up on
and is allowed to chew on. He LOVES house cleaning and will
ride the dust mop or the vacuum cleaner.
Yes, he screams but mostly when company
arrives and he's on his cage. He wants to find out what's
happening and show off for the guests. He doesn't overtly
scream from not having attention. If you scream with him for
awhile he will get quiet. He loves it when you scream back at
him and whistle with him and dance with him. He has the most
tremendous "belly laugh" just like a human and will
laugh appropriately at your silly antics or something silly on TV.
We may just have a rare bird.
We've tried toys and gym-like things. Won't touch them.
Waist of money. He only wants to be a part of the family.
His only toy is a 2x4 that I screw to the top of his cage to chew
on. That's the only thing he will touch. I took
plexiglass and put it around the edges of the top of the cage to
keep him from chewing up the wallpaper. I put it on with
u-bolts. I left the room, came back and he handed me the
u-bolts back! He had loosened the nuts and gave me back the
u-bolts. So, I tried fixing him a goody with all kinds of
screws and locks and things. Never touched it. He only
likes to play with that type of stuff if you have spent time putting
it together for a purpose. He's a little devil sometimes.
As far as compatability, I have 3 dogs,
2 birds and a lizard. The conure is fine with the dogs and
will ride on their backs. The cockatoo just hisses at them and
they run. The cockatoo loves to peck at the lizards glass cage
and they have stare down sessions that are hysterically funny.
The only problem I have is that the conure REFUSES to get along with
the cockatoo. He lunges and bites at him. We've spent
equal time with the both of them together but the conure still feels
that he came first. We've never been able to get them to get
along. The only time they are civil is when the conure is one
shoulder and the cockatoo is on the other. They don't fuss and
fight.
You had mentioned bird poop. We
found a product on the market that is really great. "Doo-dissolve."
It has a pleasing mint fragrance and is safe for the bird if he eats
it. It really works on that dried up stuff and makes clean up
a breeze. Places like "Petsmart" have it and
it's about $10 a bottle. IT'S WORTH IT!
Flight? If you take your birds
outside you need them clipped. They WILL try to fly off if
spooked. My conure took off one day and fortunately when I
screamed his name he turned around and came back. I had read
all the "never clip your bird" articles. Pish-posh!
The conure has a flight clip because he is fast as a bullet.
The cockatoo I keep a show clip for appearance. He can't gain
any altitude but can still travel a short distance and he doesn't
hurt himself if he jumps off the bed, etc. He still has his
balance instead of going THUD into the floor. I play with both
my birds and hop them up and down so they get some exercise in those
wings. I had the same trouble with the cockatoo in the very
beginning with him getting spooked over everything. It is very
dangerous as you said with ceilings fans - not to mention candles!
He would always land on the stove top. I finally found a vet
that would clip them and he was nice enough to show me how to do it.
Now I clip my birds wings, nails and file the beaks down just a
smidge when they get razor sharp. Never clipping or filing
deep enough to hit the blood supply. They both let me do it
without a fight and not having to papoose them in a towel.
They trust me.
"Your Not A Good Bird Mommy"
is a hoot! Yes, I feel right into that trap as well.
It's all baloney. As I said, I don't make myself nerotic
worrying and I've been told I have the healthies and happiest birds
my vet has ever seen. The super sized cages were an issue too.
The conure has a literal condo but it was on sale for very cheap.
He likes toys and it's more room for things to play with. The
cockatoo we got a cage big enough for his wing span because he does
like to flap his wings in his cage every once in awhile.
Diet? He eats everything we do.
If he doesn't like it, he'll tell you. If you make tater tots?
Oh brother you bettter make plenty for Ziggy. He likes fruit
ok, but he doesn't want it that regularly. He likes breads and
meats. He has his "parrot mix" but he also shares what
we have at the table. Chicken, carrots, lettuce, pizza.
Just about any veggie we have. If I make mashed potatoes I
have to give him a separate bowl or he'll drive you nuts. He
was a little withered looking when we got him but since he's been
here and eating our food his weight increased appropriately and his
feathers are fuller and richer in luster. He was eating
nothing but sunflower seeds and an occasional Ritz cracker.
I'm glad somebody else does the beak
thing. Everybody that comes in contact with me and my birds,
including my family, just have a fit because I wrestle around with
them with their beaks. "He's gonna bite your finger off!
STOP THAT!!" The conure really does like to nail you so
you have to be careful but the cockatoo LOVES to beak play and
loves, "Got your nose!" Now a strange bird I
certainly wouldn't do that with. Ziggy have never bitten hard
when we are playing. Every once in a while he lunge off his
cage and nail you and then just laugh and jump up and down.
They both know, "NO BITE!" Everybody just laughed at
me over that one but brother do they know what that means.
They know I'm not scared of them either.
I never thought about lifting them up by
the beak. Well, the conure does that now that I think about
it. Ziggy just reaches out and takes your hand and steps up.
He's a person, not a bird. LOL!
Discipline. I agree with you whole
heartedly. I've heard all about this don't discipline your
bird. They are to be allowed to scream at anytime because they
are happy when they scream. BULL! They get spoiled.
You certainly shouldn't beat your bird or throw things at him.
It may sound cruel but I use a squirt bottle. I use it in 2
different ways. The first as our bathing tool for the most
part. He loves to be sprayed and I soak him and clean his
feathers. That's always a mist. He goes around making
the sound of the squirt bottle, "SSH, SSH, SSH, SSH."
The other is I set the bottle for a steady stream. If he is
being inappropriate I stand back far enough that it won't hurt him
and give him one good squirt. He's quite after that. It
doesn't hurt him and it works. Now, all you have to do is pick
up the bottle when he's being unruly and he will quiet down.
I've never hit him or screamed at him. Just a tiny bit of
water and he's not scared of water from it either. He still
loves to take a bath.
I wish I could get my cockatoo to play
dead. I've tried and tried and tried. He does not like
it at all. He will do a flip where I just turn him upside
down, swing him back and then flip him back up. He takes bows
and laughs after that but he will not be turned on him back for any
length of time. He is also a little harder to get off your
shoulder. I can beak the conure but not Ziggy. You have
to grab his feet and lift or duck your shoulders. He loves
being on your shoulder and gets in your face and gives kisses and
dances up and down. There have been days that he has stayed on
my shoulder most of the day while I'm doing house work or cleaning
out the garage. I don't understand people that say don't put
your bird on your shoulder. I've never been bit, we bond, and
they love it.
I just cracked up over the lady mad
about her Moluccan dropping his food in his bowl. They ALL do
that! Give Ziggy a cracker and he will run to his cage and
drop it in his water. I know, I know - CAGE. Sorry, he
only sleeps there or stays there when we aren't home. The rest
of the time he has full run of the house if he wants to. He's
a good bird and sometimes he just wants to stay on his cage.
Give him a coke can or something that he asks for (he really does
ask) and he takes it back to his cage to play with it. He
loves to play catch with coke bottle tops and he knows who's turn it
is next and will throw it to the appropriate person.
I didn't know that they didn't produce
saliva. See, I did learn something very interesting from you
that I had never heard anywhere else. Makes perfect sense to
me. I know all the experts say NO CAFFEINE! Well, he
loves iced tea and will take your glass away from you. He
ain't dead yet. He also loves Sundrop which is a local soft
drink with about twice the caffeine of coffee. Of course it's
in moderation. He will take the Sundrop bottle away from you
and hold himself and drink out of it. He loves dry dog food
because it goes crunch.
I have read about your gym and the
thought is very tempting. It would work for the conure but the
Moluccan probably wouldn't stay on it if left alone in the house.
He likes being where you are at and he climbs off of perches and
chairs to come find you or he jumps down. I have an old
fashioned bed that's really high off the floor and he can jump off
it. He jumps off the couch onto the floor.
I know that's a trait that has been
allowed. He really isn't interested in toys. Never has
been. Even his prior owner said the same thing, but they kept
him on a screened in porch and didn't play with him. He has
been encouraged to be a part of the family just like the conure.
The conure only wants your attention part of the time. If he
asks for it that's fine. The rest of the time he wants to play
with his toys and be left alone.
I have made a couple of play devices for
Ziggy that can be rolled from room to room but he isn't happy with
them and just hops down off of them. He's much happier
standing on your foot while you wash dishes or stand on the washing
machine while you fold clothes or lay in your lap and watch TV.
I wonder if it would work for him? He really is so much more
of a person than a bird and has a brilliant vocabulary and asks
questions and talks with you. The experts say that a Moluccan
can't do that. They have a limited vocabulary and don't have
the reasoning capability that a Grey or a Macaw would have.
WRONG! I don't have children and that bird is like my son.
I love him to death and he does me as well. We are together
ALL the time.
I get up in the morning and I take the
lock off the cage. He's a grumpy guss so I just leave him
alone until he wakes up. He will softly whistle for me and
say, "Da-daaaa........oh Da-daaaaaa....." Then I'll
flip the latch (he can do it himself but that's his routine).
Then we spend the rest of the day together. He knows when it's
time for me to go to work and gets back in the cage with no
problems. He does argue about bedtime though. "I
don't want to go." I haven't found the cage to be that
big of a burden on him. He's not covered and he sees
everything around him. He loves to get in his cage and do
flips for you and other tricks. He seems to like it and he
goes there when he wants to except for bedtime or if we leave the
house and he's understanding about it.
I have really enjoyed your site and it
makes me feel much better that most of the things you are doing with
your birds follows the same steps I'm taking. Any pet store
that has a parrot I stop and look and absorb what the
"experts" say. Some of it I find rather cruel.
At times I felt like I was a really bad parent for my birdies.
Your sight has really given me a "check and balance" on
myself and I've found I'm not far off the beaten path. My
birds are very happy, talkative, interactive and healthy. They
probably are a bit more spoiled than you like them to be but I enjoy
them that way. They aren't brats but they do strut around.
I've used the same steps you talked about on training them just by
sure intuition and I'm glad to see I'm doing things correctly.
One thing that I never taught Ziggy that
he came up on his own and I know we are well bonded is out of the
blue one day he started, "Da-daaah?" Yes Ziggy.
"Do you love me?" I was a little stunned. Of
course I love you. "You love Ziggy?" Yes I do
baby. "You do?" Yes, I love my birdie-bird
very much. "I love you too!" It brought a tear
to my eye. We never worked on that and he asked me plainly out
of the blue. This was probably nearly a year after having him.
If I'm cuddling with him on the couch he will look up and say,
"I love you Da-daaaa." It amazes me that he
comprehends such feelings and emotions. It wasn't from a
training session of repeating I love you, it just happened. He
blows kisses when he says it.
I never thought I was a bird person.
Never crossed my mind. We took the conure in as a refugee
first and I was so scared to touch I had to put on oven mits.
Then came the opportunity to get Ziggy and I was really scared he
was out of my league and I wouldn't be able to handle him. I
never thought in a million years that you could bond so deeply with
a bird. I certainly never thought you could actually converse
with a bird and have understanding between the two of you. I
was always the type, "Polly want a cracker?" Boy was
I wrong! If I had a bigger house I'd have more parrots.
I'd love to have a flock of them all hovered around me at night
watching TV.
Thanks again for all of the wonderful
insight you have given to the public. It's nice to hear
positive things.
Sincerely,
Alan Gray
Hi again Wayne!!!! My birds ABSOLUTELY LOVED the
last order. If you remember the show Sanford and son, and how Fred
Sanford always grabbed his heart and eyes get big, telling his widow
he was coming.... well Nessie, my blue front amazon did that too, hehe.
I was trying to add perches in her cage, she grabbed one I left on top
of the cage and would not let go, was growling at me..... until.... I
brought out the hugest knot you sent me. she took a few steps back
with wide eyes and ran across the cage to grab the knot from me. And
all the Conures are loving the gym and perches I bought from you. Even
one of my birds that has not really played with many toys will run out
of her cage to go play on the gym and with the extra sticks. For all
my birdies, you are the perch/play stand guru!! They would all bow to
you (if they could) and give you a big thanks!! I tell anyone and
everyone that has anything to do with birds online or in real life how
great your products are. Thank you again!!!
Wayne,
Here are the pictures I told you about. He is having a ball on his
new gym! Thank you so much for all your help.
Sincerely,
Shari Markee
Wayne,
The
play stand arrived day before yesterday, and it's beautiful!!!!
Baxter (my B&G) loves it! Thanks so much!
Gina
Wayne,
Hi.
I received the play gym for Frodo yesterday. Assembly went well.
The color is absolutely gorgeous. You were right. It is a
perfect color and very neutral. Frodo took to the gym right
away. He took a bath in the water cup as soon as I put him on
the gym. He stayed on for about an hour and a half then we sat
outside on the front porch for a bit. He got on the gym again
first thing this morning while I got ready for work. He
screaming has decreased and I am still using the Hello
training when he does. I have also started using the
Stay when he tries to get off the gym. I will forward
pictures of Frodo on his new gym to you tomorrow when I bring my
digital to work to download the pictures.
Thank
you again for all your help and taking the time to speak with me
before placing my order. I found our conversation most
informative and helpful.
Hi Wayne,
Just wanted to let you know that Reno is loving his gym. He is
chewing it up when he is out on it. He now stays up there and alot of
the time he doesn't want to come off of it. I am so glad I found you
site and ordered one.
Doris
Wayne,
The playpen arrived Friday. It's great!
I have it set up and across the room
so the little Sweetie can scope it out
for awhile. I'm sure she will love it. The
size is perfect for her.
I appreciate your hard work in making
this and will visit your website occasionally
to see what else we may need. I'm sure
you will be hearing from me again.
Thank you very much,
Jeanne
Hi Wayne....I received the play gym today and I
love it. My African Grey, Molly, got on it right away and started
playing. It also looks really nice. As soon as I get back to Florida
in October, I'll be ordering another one for down there. Thanks
again, Sincerely, Deb Demers & Molly
Hi Wayne,
The gym arrived tonight. It looks great and it was very easy
to assemble. Here is a picture of our Military Macaw on the
gym:
Wayne -
I just wanted you to know that we received our stand this evening
and it is fabulous!!! Our Eclectus, Tucker, has investigated it
right away and already spent a few hours on it! He only flew
down once and that was when our cat knocked something off a nearby table
and startled him. I think we are gong to have great success.
I am excited at the timing as I am off work tomorrow and will have a
full day with him. I will try not to overwhelm him though.
I am very interested in getting a few extra bowls if I can. I
would like a set of 1 large and 2 small if at all possible
( am so anal about keeping bowls clean)- I can pay via PayPal or
over the phone - however you wish - just LMK. I also
appreciated that you sent our stand via UPS!!! My husband is a
sales rep with UPS and I get more than a little grief when I recieve
packages from other carriers.
I am very pleased with my purchase and I think Tucker is pleased as
well.
Thanks a lot!!!

The play gym arrived today. We got it out and Kozmo our
parrot loves her new play gym! We sat in the floor with the
top piece and she climbed right up on it. We went ahead and
put it together and now she doesn't want to come off. Thanks,
Wayne. We appreciate it!

Wayne,
We
received Bailey's gym in the mail last week and he loves it!
Although when I'm around he tends to jump off it and run over to me
but I've been trying to put him back on it. He enjoys it but
wants to be with me too. He's already chewed the wood quite a
bit - in fact he chewed one of the eye bolts out! What a riot.
Boy is he stubborn. I think my friend Judy Greene ordered one
from you too. She was with me when we opened Bailey's up. I
think she and my daughter went on line and ordered one for her tiel,
Charlie.
Thanks
so much!
Missy
Dear Wayne,
We just couldn't be happier with our new
gym! Not only is it a total work of art, our parrot is unable to
climb down! You made it with a parrot's mind in mind! He enjoys
chewing the bottlebrush more than anything! Now we won't have to buy
all those various very expensive toys. I indend to tell all my
friends with parrots about your creation. This is the fourth parrot
gym we have purchased and by far, the very best! Wishing you
continued success. And, after our conversation I was wondering why
you havent't written a book. Please consider it, the parrot world
needs more informative people and you fit the bill!
With thanks,
Gail
Dear Wayne,
I just wanted to thank you for getting the play gym to me so
fast. I couldn't wait to see what Willow would do. First
she spent a few minutes just looking around and it seemed like she
was thinking wow! is this all for me!! and she immediately
began to chew on the perches and playing with the toys. I had
bought her a cage top play gym in the past, but it doesnt compare to
this! She seemed disappointed when I put her back in her cage
before going to work. I know she will love it for many years
to come! Thank you for such a great product!
Tanya, and my little tiel, Willow
Hi
Wayne :)
I have to tell you how MUCH my baby Blue Crown, FeeBee..LOVES LOVES
LOVES her perch. She's been spoiled from the get go with
it. I bought that small gym from you on Ebay and she's been on
it pretty much since her first day here. Problem is, I have the
gym in my office where I spend my work days, but in the evenings and
on the weekends, we're all in the family room (downstairs).. and when
she's down there with us, she has to spend her time for the most part
in a cage. SHE HATES IT.. gets all pissy and stuff.. what a tude!
Anyway, since she doesn't understand about finances...she insists that
we get her another gym for downstairs. So...we're dippin into
savings and would like to order your Deluxe Model...maybe even with a
yummy knot on it :)
I've been watching ebay, but haven't seen any. Will you be
making one of them soon that would have branches appropriate for her
cute feet? :) (god I love this bird already).
OH...I'd also like to order another perch set like the one I got
before for $20.00. We used all the perches in her two
cages...plus some around the house as little places for her to sit for
a minute here and there in our travels...i.e. kitchen, bathroom, etc.
and we need more please :)
You know, if you don't mind, I'd love to chat with you for a few
minutes for some advice on a couple of things. I read your
website in its entirety the other night (WOW)...every time I had a
question. the next section talked about it...LOL You're too much
Wayne...like you were reading my mind! I've been trying to
do the "beak game" with her and have a question on that.
Plus, I'm having a little trouble with the dogs and her.
Anyway, when you get a chance, would love to hear from you about the
gym, and about a chat whenever is convenient for you.
Be well till then,
Angela
Hi Wayne!
We've had the perch now for a couple weeks and it's great. She
loves it. We move it around a lot and she has been staying put for
now. We were up at our cabin for the long weekend and we had her in
her small travel cage and she finally figured out that if she flew to
the ground she could go where ever she wanted. so I'm assuming we will
have some of that behavior at home now, too. I will follow your
instructions and hopefully she'll figure out nothing good comes from
it!
She still makes QUITE a mess, even with the base below the branches
(don't know how, it defies reason). But for the most part, it is much
much better than before.
So thank you. We love it and you have a great product.

Wayne,
I received Evie's new Bottlebrush gym
yesterday. It's really pretty but need help assembling it.
That will come this weekend. In the meantime, I am introducing
her to the "top half" as you have suggested. We're
in no hurry because I really want this to work for both of us.
I am excited about the opportunity to change her life and I hope I'm
not being overly optimistic at our chances of success here.
She's a trooper and has always taken changes in great stride
and not traumatized by new things if introduced appropriately.
I'll keep in touch.
Thank you for your help, advice,
direction and our new GYM!
Linda

Wayne,
Sorry this message took so long, but the gym arrived on May 14th.
It really is a beauty and far superior to the other gyms I've
encountered. BB, the Myers, thinks it's very cool and likes to hang
out on it. We are not yet to the point where he's there all day. but
he gets significant gym time. The modification you made, so it can be
a standing gym or a table top gym, works great. Good idea!
Thanks,
Pam and BB
Hi Wayne,
Just wanted to drop you a quick note and let you know we received
Whiskey's Play Gym and it is beautiful! Whiskey loves it and
has taken right to it with no problems! He/she is such an easy
going little Goffin, adjust easily to everything. He is
chewing, chewing, chewing on this thing so I'm sure we'll be in
touch later for more branches!
Thanks again for doing what you do so well! :)

Hi Wayne,
I received our new stand hours after I sent you the email yesterday.
I was thrilled to see that you had supplied 3 cups with the stand!
Were you reading my mind? LOL. Rudi is thrilled with her new stand
and so am I. As soon as I get a chance I will send you some pics of
her enjoying it! Thank you sooo much, another job well done. Your A
OK in my Book!
Take Care,
Kim Principale
Hi Wayne,
Just to let you know that the gym arrived yesterday in good shape. (
Enumclaw is along way from South Florida) I love it and
so does Scooby. I will send you a picture of him on it when I get
some. Thanks so much.

Hey Wayne...
Got the medium parrot stand last week and it looks great! I had
forgotten what the stand looks like with the first layer of wood still
intact...but my senegal is busy chewing it all away to make it look
just like my first stand. My parents are coming to pick up my old
stand for their caique and they couldn't be happier. It is funny but
the green marble seems like it is more slick than the Birdseye...is
that just because my stand is old?
Anyway, the poop wipes off much more easily on this new stand.
Yippee!
Thanks a ton, I am just as pleased as I was with the first stand.
You do amazing work. Your stands are the only ones worth buying!

Hi Wayne, Just wanted to let you
know that we received the parrot play gym for Captain and he is
already spending allot of time on it. He's funny though I've been
watching him and he hasn't really been chewing on his gym besides the
spinner toy which he loves but he does go back inside his cage and
chews alot on the bottlebrush perches. When I opened up his cage this
morning he headed straight for his play gym and it's been about 3
hours now and he is still playing on it! I am soooo tempted to order
one of the play gyms you have on e-bay right now for Conures for
Morgan my other parrot. Since I ordered the perches and put one in his
cage his chews on it allot and is also playing with his other toys
more. Don't be surprised if you see my name with another purchase real
soon. Will you be listing play gyms regularly in the future on e-bay?
Thanks also for all the parrot advice. Have a great day! Debbie
Hi
Wayne,
I
dont even know where to begin in telling you how happy I am
with the 2 gyms you made for my birds.
The big one rolls so smoothly even over the tile grout that
Buzz, my grey, hardly stops playing when we move it around.
She has even climbed back on while we were rolling it!
I am very happy I went ahead and got the larger tray, she seems
to have fun going up one spiral, trotting over to the other one and
going back down. Plus, being a typical grey, she has another side to
go to when something she isnt sure of comes by, like the
broom, so I have to surmise that she feels safer. Cleaning
it is SO MUCH easier then her last two gyms. And anything that has to
do with birds and is easier to clean is almost to be cried over.
The little one is so sturdy and fits so perfectly on top of
the cockatiel,
Bubbas cage so even though it is so tall I dont worry
about it being unstable.
So
much for me though and on to the birds!
Bubba used to climb out to his little gym and just sit like a
statue except for climbing back in the cage to eat.
Now he wont get back in his cage so I have to put his
food on the gym. He doesnt
even go in to bed. I have to get him down and put him to bed. Plus he
is chewing the perches like a maniac!
He climbs all over it too. He didnt even sulk when we
cut his wings this time. I
thought he would be scared as usual but he even hopped off my hand
onto the big gym and immediately started to chew on it like it
belonged to him also. He
thinks he is a big bird now! Of
course Buzz ran, like the chicken bird she is, to the far side and
started waving her foot around for me to rescue her from the usurper.
As
for the Buzz, well let me tell you, she is a different bird!
She will be 2 years old May 17th and has been
stripping her feathers since
Feb
1, 2003
.
Nothing stopped her and any aggravation or stress made is
worse. She had a
naked spot on her breast and all the feathers between her head and
wing was either gone or ripped to pieces.
We never saw her grooming any of her feathers, just ripping and
shredding them in those spots. We
tried all manner of remedies from blood work ups to sprays to
organic food. Everyone in
the house noticed that she was not doing it after a couple of days on
the new gym. It has been
a few weeks now and her naked spot is growing in for the first time in
a year and there are only a few old shredded feathers around her neck.
She has let all the new ones grow back unmolested.
Not only that but she is actually grooming herself now for the
first time since we got her at 4 weeks old.
I have been so traumatized since she started it t |
